VIPs expected at Pacquiao-Clottey presser in Dallas

MANILA, Philippines – The press conference of 7-time world champ Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey is expected to attract big names at the Cowboys Stadium in Texas on Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila).
“There were many people simply happy to see Manny and it was way beyond what we’ve witnessed before,” Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz told PhilBoxing.com’s Ronnie Nathanielsz.
Koncz said that several hundred VIP ticket holders to Dallas Cowboys football games will attend the press conference that will officially kick start the Pacquiao-Clottey fight dubbed as “The Event”.
The fight will take place on March 13.
“Pacquiao is no longer just a star in the Philippines and for Filipinos. He is a crossover star with Americans and others realizing what a champion he is,” said Koncz.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum will host the press conference, which is projected to draw several hundred people, including those who witnessed Pacquiao’s 11th round demolition of Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera in San Antonio, Texas in 2003.
After the Texas presser, Pacquiao, Clottey and their respective teams will fly to New York for another press conference at the Madison Square Garden Theater.
Pacquiao will then head to the Wild Card Gym of Roach in Los Angeles for his training.
Freddie Roach and conditioning expert Alex Ariza know that Clottey is a dangerous foe for the pound-for-pound king. They said they have already planned how Pacquiao’s training will proceed.
Floyd Jr. vs Sugar Shane?
Meanwhile, Floyd Mayweather, Jr., who was left without a foe when Pacquiao chose to fight Clottey, has reportedly found an opponent.
The undefeated boxing star is said to figure in a match against fellow American “Sugar” Shane Mosley.
The stellar fight could be announced “as soon as Tuesday,” according to David Mayo of The Grand Rapids Press.
The rumored clash is planned to take place on May 1 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was earlier reported that Mayweather would continue to fight on March 13, the schedule of his botched bout with Pacquiao.
Mosley was earlier slated to fight on January 30 against Haitian Andre Berto at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
But Berto pulled out of the welterweight unification bout because of the devastation in Haiti where he lost some family members.
Mayweather and Pacquiao were supposed to face off on March 13 at the MGM Grand but talks crumbled because of their disagreement on the drug testing procedure.
Pacquiao also sued Mayweather and some of his team members for alleging that the pound-for-pound king was taking performance-enhancing drugs.
