Free Live Showing of Pacquiao-Clottey fight in Manila

MANILA, Philippines -- Manila residents will have the chance to watch for free the live telecast of Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao's fight against Ghana 's Joshua Clottey on March 14, through the giant screens to be set up by the city government in several venues throughout the city.

Residents in District 1 can see Pacquiao slug it out with Clottey at the Tondo Sports Complex; District 2 residents at the Sentro ng Malikhaing ManileƱo (formerly Patricia Sports Complex); District 3 residents at the Rasac Covered Court; District 4, Dapitan Sports Complex; District 5, San Andres Sports and Civic Center; and District 6, Sarmiento Covered Court.

Projectors and LCD screens will be used for the no-commercial break showing for the residents.

All in all, the city government said that a total 20,000 people would get the chance to watch the fight live and for free and that the sites would be ready to admit people as early as 8 a.m.

Marshals will be assigned to man the entry of the sports complexes to ensure that there will be no overcrowding, shoving or chaos.

He added that the free screening was meant to accommodate Manila's poor residents who could not afford the expensive tickets.

“We want to give them access, so they would be able to watch the event live, as it happens in Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Texas.

Security measures, meanwhile, will be coordinated with the Manila Police District.
