Former IBF welterweight champion Joshua Clottey of Ghana may resort to his known 'dirty tactics' fighting style in order to gain advantage over Manny Pacquiao when they collide on March 13 at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Joshua Clottey may try to employ dirty tactics to win over Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao in their upcoming fight scheduled for March 13 at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington Texas.
Clottey, who is known for his dirty tactics in boxing, has a history of questionable headbutting, low blows and holding in his past title and non-title fights.
The fighter known alternatively as “The Hitter” “The Grand Master” and “Satan” has been described as instinctively dirty. In 1999, he led in the three judges’ scorecards but couldn’t stop himself from butting Baldomir and was disqualified in the 11th round to blow a golden chance to win the International Boxing Council (IBC) welterweight crown at the Wembley Arena in London.
In 2006, Clottey was deducted a point when he fought Richard Gutierrez. In June last year, Clottey also inflicted heavy damage on Miguel Cotto in their fight at the Madison Square Garden in New York. The head butting caused 20 stitches on Cotto's head.
In his 2008 title fight with Zab Judah for the the IBF welterweight title in Las Vegas, referee Robert Byrd stopped the fight when the ring doctor ruled that Judah could not continue fighting due to bad cut inflicted by Clottey on Judah's right eye. The referee said it was caused by a headbutt but Judah's handlers said it was a legitimate punch that caused the damage.
With Clottey's questionable fighting style, Manny Pacquiao may just end up losing the seemingly easy fight due to possible intentional headbutting, low blows and other dirty tactics which Clottey may resort to in order to snatch the title from the pound-for-pound king.
Joshua Clottey who hails from Ghana is a former IBF welterweight champion. He was reported to make at least $1million for his date with Pacquiao on March 13. The prize money is so far the biggest in his entire boxing career.
Clottey and Pacquiao will collide at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas for the WBO welterweight crown currently held by the Filipino boxing superstar.
