The test conducted by the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Manny Pacquiao to determine the presence of illegal drugs in his body showed the Filipino boxer is clean after the result was announced by the commission last Monday
The Nevada State Athletic Commission's(NSAC) mandated urinalysis conducted on Manny Pacquiao last December 30, 2009 was released Monday and found the Filipino boxer clean.
The tests came back to us last Monday and it’s no surprise to us that they’re negative,” said Pacquiao’s adviser, Mike Koncz, in a hastily called press conference last night at the Hyatt Hotel in Manila.
Koncz said Pacquiao, who was in a separate meeting when Koncz faced the media, hardly reacted to the results of the tests because “he always knew he was clean and that there’s nothing to react to.”
NSAC ordered the test late last month as required by the commission for licensing purposes in the state of Nevada. The agency earlier said that Mayweather was also required to undergo the test and was also reportedly found clean.
Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. were scheduled to fight on March 13 in Las Vegas but negotiations failed due to blood testing protocol that the Mayweather demanded before before signing the contract to fight Pacquiao. Mayweather claimed that Pacquiao was into performance-enhancing drugs hence the need for an Olympic- type drug testing procedure which Pacquiao turned down.
“This is the last time we will comment on these results. What’s important with the results being made public is for us to clear Manny’s name after being tarnished by Mayweather and the Dela Hoya people,” said Koncz.
After the collapse of the fight negotiations, Pacquiao has agreed to fight Joshua Clottey of Ghana on March 13 at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Mayweather has not announced his new opponent.
Pacquiao is flying to Texas on Monday for the first leg of their press tour that will bring the boxers to New York and California as part of the publicity campaign of the promoter.
The Filipino boxing icon will start training at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood on Thursday in preparation for the March 13 fight at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington Texas.
