HBO to Distribute Pacquiao vs. Clottey on PPV

When it was announced that Pacquiao vs. Clottey would take place on March 13, it put HBO in a bit of a bind as Floyd Mayweather Jr. was also set to fight on that same date against an unannounced opponent. For days, the boxing community kept wondering just which fight HBO would decide to air.

With Top Rank consistently putting on their own PPVs, the thought was that the network would opt to televise Mayweather's fight in Las Vegas.

Yesterday afternoon however, the network caught a bit of a break as Andre Berto pulled out of his January 30 clash with Shane Mosley due to the difficult time he is facing right now after the earthquake in Haiti took the lives of family members.

With that fight now scrapped, Shane Mosley needed a new foe and Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions was quick to jump on the opportunity to put together a fight between Shane and Floyd Mayweather. According to Schaefer, he's in the process of trying to make it happen and should he be successful, the thought is that Mayweather-Mosley could be scheduled for early May as GBP has May 1 and May 8 reserved with the MGM Grand.

Clearly, the March 13 date for Mayweather is off the table and HBO has quickly moved to strike a deal with Top Rank to distribute the Pacquiao-Clottey fight on PPV. The telecast will begin at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT.

Meanwhile, both fighters, along with Top Rank are in Dallas today to promote the fight, followed by a stop in New York on Wednesday.
